Why We Do Team Workouts Every Saturday at CrossFit Apeldoorn 💪
Did you know that our Saturday morning Team WOD has become a long-standing tradition here at CrossFit Apeldoorn? We actually borrowed the idea from a good friend who started CrossFit over 14 years ago, and since then, it has become a cornerstone of our weekly schedule — something we truly look forward to every week.
While team or partner workouts might not be everyone’s cup of tea (and that’s completely okay!), they have proven to be an incredibly powerful training tool for many of our members. Here’s why we believe in them so strongly.
There are days when energy levels are low and motivation is hard to find. On those days, training with a partner or team can be the difference between just showing up and actually performing at your best. There’s something about knowing someone else is counting on you that gives you a little extra push. You’re no longer training just for yourself — you’re in it together.
Team workouts also provide an amazing opportunity to connect with others. They often lead to new friendships, unexpected partnerships, or even just getting to know someone you’ve only ever seen across the room. We’ve seen many long-lasting training partnerships form from a simple Saturday team WOD. Even if you’re more introverted, there’s something powerful about that shared experience — sweating, working, and laughing together.
Speaking of laughter: social interaction is one of the most underrated benefits of CrossFit. It’s more than just exercise — it’s community. Our Saturday WOD is often a highlight of the week for many members, not just because of the workout, but because of the sense of belonging and camaraderie that comes with it. Whether it’s a high-five after a tough round or just some post-WOD banter, these moments matter.
There’s also a unique layer of personal growth in team workouts. Not only are you training your body, but you’re also developing soft skills — communication, collaboration, and quick decision-making. Figuring out when to switch, who takes on which movements, and how to keep a steady pace as a team — all of that builds more than muscle. It builds trust and awareness, both of yourself and your teammates.
And let’s not forget the sheer fun and variety that team WODs bring. They tend to be structured differently than regular workouts. The shared workload, the changing dynamics, and the teamwork create a refreshing change of pace. It’s a different kind of challenge — one that keeps training interesting and engaging.
Now, we completely understand that not everyone thrives in a group setting. Some people prefer solo training, and that’s absolutely respected here. But if you’re curious, open to new experiences, or just want to see what all the buzz is about, we invite you to give it a try. You might be surprised by how much energy, support, and joy you find in training together.
See you Saturday?
